چکیده

Abstract Background A novel hemodialysis (HD) system employing electrolyzed water containing molecular hydrogen (E-HD) has been developed to improve the bio-compatibility of HD. This study examined impact E-HD on changes in redox state during HD and HD-related fatigue. Method single-arm, prospective observational 63 patients chronic (41 males; mean age, 72 ± 9 years; median duration HD, 7 years). Redox parameters (serum myeloperoxidase [MPO], malondialdehyde-protein adduct [MDA-a], thioredoxin 1 [TRX]) were compared between control (C-HD) after 8 weeks. Fatigue was evaluated using a numerical rating scale (NRS) 8-week course. Results In C-HD, an increase serum MPO accompanied increases both oxidative products (MDA-a) anti-oxidant molecules (TRX). E-HD, although accentuated MDA-a TRX ameliorated as with C-HD. who showed fatigue (47%) change by risk factor for presence During weeks observation those displayed significant decreases scores. Conclusion ameliorates stress supports anti-oxidation suggesting improved system. may benefit fatigue, but mechanisms underlying have yet be clarified.

Evaluation of Oxidative Stress in Blood During Hemodialysis

The number of patients with end-stage renal disease is growing rapidly in Asia. Patients with end stage renal disease failure (ESRD) undergoing long term hemodialysis (HD) are at risk for high oxidative stress. There is paucity of information with regard to oxidative stress during HD. Therefore, the aim of the present study was to evaluate catalase enzyme activity in erythrocytes and the total ...

Electrolyzed-reduced water reduced hemodialysis-induced erythrocyte impairment in end-stage renal disease patients.

Chronic hemodialysis (HD) patients increase erythrocyte susceptibility to hemolysis and impair cell survival. We explored whether electrolyte-reduced water (ERW) could palliate HD-evoked erythrocyte impairment and anemia. Forty-three patients undergoing chronic HD were enrolled and received ERW administration for 6 month. We evaluated oxidative stress in blood and plasma, erythrocyte methemoglo...

Oxidative stress in Egyptian hemodialysis children.

INTRODUCTION Nitric oxide (NO) is one of the endothelium-dependent relaxing factors released by the vascular endothelium. It is decreased in chronic kidney disease. It was found that higher levels of circulating proinflammatory cytokines such as interleukin-1beta (IL-1beta), tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-alpha), IL-6, and IL-13 are associated with mortality. The aim of our study was to evalu...

Oxidative Stress in Hemodialysis Patients: A Review of the Literature

Hemodialysis (HD) patients are at high risk for all-cause mortality and cardiovascular events. In addition to traditional risk factors, excessive oxidative stress (OS) and chronic inflammation emerge as novel and major contributors to accelerated atherosclerosis and elevated mortality. OS is defined as the imbalance between antioxidant defense mechanisms and oxidant products, the latter overwhe...

The neuroprotective effects of electrolyzed reduced water and its model water containing molecular hydrogen and Pt nanoparticles

Background Human brain is the biggest energy consuming tissue in human body. Although it only represents 2% of the body weight, it receives 20% of total body oxygen consumption and 25% of total body glucose utilization. For that reason, brain is considered to be the most vulnerable part of human body against the reactive oxygen species (ROS), a by-product of aerobic respiration. Oxidative stres...
